The counterparts met in Switzerland in order to settle up the everlasting crisis in Cyprus and reunite the island. The meeting have failed and concluded without an agreement after the Greek Cypriot has left the table. However in international media approach the situation from Greek side with their one-sided news reports. The Washington Post news is a great example of it. They report quote “peace talks fail to reach reunification deal over Turkey’s insistence on troop presence.” Turkey insists that its presence in Cyprus is in accordance with a treaty which grants its guarantor status that was signed in 1960 between the Republic of Cyprus, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom. Without any satisfactory deal, it has no make sense to want removal of troops and it is the real reason of the dead end of the talks. As stated in TRT World’s great piece, “Turkey has, however, supported peace efforts between the two sides which would ultimately lead to a Turkish withdrawal”.
